How to make money on Helium

7 Steps to Your Success on Helium!

Here is a simple formula designed for your success on Helium. If you carefully follow this recipe (don't skip any ingredients) you will see your articles rise in rank and your account fill with money. I'll explain.

To make money on Helium, your articles must be ranked higher than other writers' articles. To get your articles ranked higher, your articles must be considered "more valuable." More valuable articles must be better written, more entertaining, more informative, easier to read, and above all, they must clearly address the category topic.

Here's what to do:

1. CATEGORY: First choose a familiar category that intrigues you; a topic which arouses your passion. Or better; choose a familiar category that is also popular on the site, a category that is attracting readers.

2. WORD PROCESSOR: Now, open your word processing program. Yes, write your article in your word processing program on your computer FIRST! Don't write it on the Helium site. You can copy and paste your article into the Helium box later.

3. ORGANIZING YOUR THOUGHTS: Far too many "articles" on Helium are merely ramblings and babble doesn’t get high ratings; only well-written articles result in money in your account.

Re-read the category/question. Think of 5 answers or pieces of information pertinent to the category. Write those answers down. Now organize them into a sensible order. It's like getting dressed. Your socks must go on your feet before your shoes; your underwear goes on before your pants. The same is true of your thoughts. They must be written down in a sensible order.

It's okay to scrawl your thoughts down earlier on paper or on your computer, but remember these are not finished sentences; they are ramblings. Condense them into clear thoughts before publishing them on the Helium site.

4. SENTENCES: Write in sentences. Sentences begin with a capital letter and end in a punctuation mark like a period, a question mark, or an exclamation point. Use them. Remember to use commas, as well, to break up clauses and main thoughts. Too many commas, while not great, are better than none at all. Above all, a sentence is a thought, a clear thought. If your sentence is rambling, then break it into two sentences. Make certain to avoid long run-on sentences; they drive readers away. Very quickly.

5. PARAGRAPHS: Write in paragraphs. Even great wisdom will end up at the bottom of the ratings if reading your article gives your readers eyestrain and a headache. Keep to about 5-6 sentences or less per paragraph. Be sure to tab at least twice after each paragraph. Be diligent in this, as a run-on article with no breathing spaces between paragraphs is very tiring to read. Most people will not even bother to read a wordy mess and will automatically rank your article as "less valuable."

6. RE-WRITES: No one, not one of us, no matter how seasoned a writer, can write a perfect first draft. It is not possible. So, before submitting your article to Helium, read it and "tweak" it. Tighten up sentences by deleting words and phrases. Break long ramblings into paragraphs. Correct misspelled words (always spell check your articles using your word processor's spell checker). Change thoughts around. Change the location of entire paragraphs if you must. Do whatever is necessary to make your article easier to read.

Now here's the hardest part: Let your story sit for a few minutes, hours, or days. You'll surprise yourself with the insights your brain will come up with from structure changes to forgotten information. Waiting before you publish your article is a good thing.

7. PUBLISH TO HELIUM: After pasting your article into the Helium box, do a spell check, not so much to check your spelling but to find odd punctuation and incorrect spacing. Use your tab bar to ensure there is plenty of breathing room between paragraphs.

HINT: You may have to "Leapfrog" an article after it's published if the spacing is off or you see odd punctuation. When you leapfrog, choose to copy your original article into the box, select "spell check now," and look for any tight spacing, lack of paragraphs and strange punctuation. Correct the errors and re-publish your article. A cleaned-up article nearly always bumps up a little higher.

Good luck!

7 Steps to Your Writing Success on Helium!

The Importance of Paragraphs in Good Writing
by Sheree Zielke

Paragraphs are as necessary to good writing as solid pathways are to hiking.  Both offer us (the reader and the hiker) the ability to confidently step forward towards a final destination.

Paragraphs are like pathway stepping stones and like stones they must be compact and sturdy; 1-5 sentences are a good rule of thumb.  Those sentences must flow in an orderly fashion because our human mind is drawn to logic, and put off by chaos. Read and re-read your paragraphs and ask yourself if a reader would be able to follow your thoughts. Easily.  As easily as stepping along a solid pathway.

In addition, the human eye must have a chance to rest.  For our brain to have enough time to comprehend what our eyes are reading, our eyes must have a pit stop.  This little break in the action allows our brain a chance to regroup and prepare for the next set of thoughts, the next paragraph.

Like a stonemason, build your article, paragraph by paragraph, towards a strong stable finished piece, a piece that will have lasting value and a clear final destination.  If not, your reader will give up trying to follow your article because it’s just too hard to comprehend.  And because there are so many other paths (other articles) available to follow, yours will easily be left behind.

What is SEO or "search engine optimization?"

Search engines no longer depend solely upon meta tags; the engines crawlers are now seeking REAL valid content.

Optimizing your web site for search engines can be done by adding valid informative creative articles containing keywords or keyword phrases specific to your product or industry.

In addition, your copy must be optimized to include your key words while still maintaining a smooth sensible read.

Today's web content writers are plentiful.  Many are very skilled at research, have excellent writing skills, and have a good grasp of search engine optimization.

But choose wisely.  Read some of their work first.  A good writer is not necessarily a good web content writer.

How do I know what keywords or keyword phrases to choose?

Keywords are great, but keyword phrases are better, and valid keyword phrases that aren't popular among your competitors are best!

How do you find those phrases?  Use tracking programs like the one found at www.wordtracker.com.

In addition, spend some time inputting keyword phrases into search engines.  See what results the search engines produce.  You may be able to eliminate some keywords as weak; you will definitely find others that you never thought of, and that are much stronger.

Now you must write some well-researched informative articles incorporating those keyword phrases.  Or, you can hire a web site content keyword writer to do this for you.

Whatever you choose, your site will perform far better in the search engines after you have optimized your pages with strong keyword laden articles; articles that provide your site visitors with solid or insightful information.
